Ballytrim - Cutaway Acoustic Guitar

The Ballytrim was hand-built in Ireland by luthier John Catherwood using only Irish woods for the body and neck.

The concert size body shape is inspired by the European tradition of classical and jazz guitar shapes, having a tight waist, flowing curves and a deep body to produce a focussed, balanced tone.

The main wood body used in teh body of this guitar is Cherry from the Greenmount estate near Antrim, planted in the 19th Century, felled in 2003 and air-dried. The linings are Chestnut from Tipperary. Bindings are European Walnut from the Ballytrim estate, near Killyleagh, Co. Down. It is trimmed with Ash from Enniskillen, Laburnum purfling, and Walnut and Cherry coach lines. The end pin is also Laburnum.

The top is AAA  grade European Spruce from the Italian Alps. The rosette is a five-piece Walnut, Laburnum and Ash ring.

The neck is a five piece laminate for stability, stiffness and light weight. The outside laminates are Greenmount Cherry. The inner laminates are from the same Walnut as the bindings. The centre spine of the neck is made from hard red Cherry from Dundrum, Co. Down.

The fretboard and bridge are made from Belfast Laburnum and bound in Ballytrim Walnut. The headstock is covered by a single veneer of Greenmount Cherry.

This guitar implores you to play it, and is as easy on the ear as it is on the eye.
